MIGRATION: Now installed at SEA Airport
I’m so thrilled to finally share the project I’ve been working on for the past year.
Early Version of the artwork.
MIGRATION – A WELCOME STORY IN MOTION
This piece is titled Migration. It’s inspired by the many ways we move—physically, emotionally, as families, as cultures. It’s especially fitting for the airport, a place where we arrive, depart, and connect.
MIGRATION by Ed Marquand of Tieton Mosaic and I created in beautiful Teiton, Washington. Special thanks to all that supported, moved these pieces, cut glass, fed me and housed me, and were our cheer squad. Special THANK YOU to our assistants Arturo Solorio and Sammy Alvarez for doing the lions share of the work.
We move. As individuals, as families, as communities. We carry stories in our bodies, and dreams in our reflections.
This artwork, installed at the gateway of SeaTac Airport, is a celebration of movement—of people, of memory, of possibility. Inspired by the layered meanings of migration, the piece unfolds in three parts: a large, leading figure representing collective momentum, a trio swimming in sync as community, and dozens of distinct, mirrored shapes that honor the individual journey.
Each shape is hand-adorned, catching the light like scales in motion. Their reflections shift with the day—never the same twice—just like us. They remind us that every traveler is part of something larger, and that even the smallest element carries meaning.
As you arrive or depart, this piece invites you to consider where you’ve come from, where you’re going, and who you’re traveling with.
Together, we move.
